Position:  ASL Educational Interpreter

Supervisor: Director of Special Education

 

Summary:

Facilitate communication between the deaf/hard of hearing student and his/her peers, and school staff.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  4. Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
  5. Demonstrate ethical behavior.

  8. Support the value of an education
  9. Support the philosophy and mission of Portales Municipal School District.
  10. Complete other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the Director of Special Education or the superintendent.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
  2. Demonstrate ethical behavior.
  3. Engage in self development.
  4. Maintain professional appearance, poise, and self control.
  5. Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
  6. Assist in implementing intervention strategies to meet goals of the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  7. Communicate information in an unbiased manner.
  8. Transliterate spoken English to signed English.
  9. Interpret spoken English into the language of the student.
  10. Interpret the language of the student into Standard English.
  11. Meet/plan with classroom teacher to familiarize him/her with language and concepts.
  12. Convey the social-emotional contents of the message through appropriate facial expressions and body language.
  13. Abide by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Ethics.
